Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Wilkes

THE STORY: The Susquehanna men's soccer team defeated the Colonels of Wilkes University 1-0 at home Wednesday night.

THE GOAL: The lone goal of the game came in the 36th minute when Maxfield Reed scored off a corner kick from Thomas Burke. Reed's initial shot and was blocked before he collected the rebound and shot again for the goal. It marked his first goal of the season.

STATS: The River Hawks out-shot the Colonels 13-8 and managed seven corner kicks to Wilkes' two. Jake Heyser, Reed and Jeremy Motsko led all players with three shots each. Freshman goalie Matt Ellingworth earned his first win of his career, making three saves in his 90 minutes of work.

LAST CHANCE: In the 86th minute, Wilkes had a chance to tie the game but Ellingworth came up with a save to seal the win for the River Hawks.

UP NEXT: Susquehanna remains at home for the last home game of a three-game home-stand to open Landmark Conference action against The Catholic University of America at 3:30 p.m.
