Patrick Bresney and Ryan Cronin netted two goals for the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team in its first Landmark Conference win with a 2-0 over Juniata College Wednesday night at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
Susquehanna (3-4-2 overall, 1-1-1 Landmark) controlled much of the play in the match with Juniata (1-7-3, 0-2-1) but the score remained 0-0 at the halftime break.
Early in the second half, Bresney headed in the ball off a corner kick taken by Thomas Burke, giving him his first career goal in the 55th minute.
Later in the second half in the 73rd minute, Cronin scored his third goal of the season off a breakaway pass from Noah Carles. Cronin needed to head the ball down to his feet to get past the Juniata defender and free himself for the goal.
The River Hawks outshot the Eagles 17-6 while holding Juniata to only two shots in the first half.
Freshman goalie, Casey Hoover earned his first collegiate win in his first start with a shutout making two saves.
Susquehanna will return to action at 4 p.m. Saturday at Scranton for the annual Susquehanna and Scranton Red Card Cancer match that raises money and awareness for the fight against cancer.
