Men’s Soccer Suffers Heartbreaking Loss at Elizabethtown

A goal in the final 10 minutes of the contest Saturday afternoon dropped the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team with a 1-0 loss to Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference game in Elizabethtown.

Susquehanna (5-8-2 overall, 2-3-1 Landmark) played a strong defensive first half as the River Hawks were outshot 5-0 in the first 45 minutes but kept the score tied at 0-0.

Elizabethtown (9-5-1, 3-2-1) scored late in the second half with a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that found the corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead with 8:42 left to play.

Late in the game, as the River Hawks were pressuring to tie the score a ball was cleared down the field and Matt Ellingworth scrambled back to prevent the long goal but was whistled for a hand ball outside the box and issued a red card with only 1.4 seconds remaining in the game. Ellingworth finished with six saves in the game.

The River Hawks will travel for a 7 p.m. Wednesday night to Misericordia for a non-conference match before finishing the regular season with a matchup against Moravian next Saturday at home.
