The Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team played a solid defensive game for the first 30 minutes of the contest that included a defensive save but Drew University eventually broke through for a 4-0 victory Tuesday night in a Landmark Conference semifinal game on Ranger Stadium in Madison, N.J.
Drew (18-0-1) advances to play in the Landmark Conference Championship game Saturday against the winner of the Catholic vs. Elizabethtown. Susquehanna finishes the season with a 6-10-2 overall record.
Freshman Casey Hoover started his third consecutive game and made two key saves early in the contest and even when he was unable to make the stop, a defensive player for the River Hawks was able to step in and make the play.
Despite Susquehanna's swarming defense, Drew was able to get on the board in the 32nd minute after a three-minute span of intense offensive pressure.
The Rangers added a second goal nine minutes later and took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Early in the second half, Drew made it a 3-0 game with a play up the right side of the field and two quick passes to the front of the goal for a tap in effort.
With nearly 10 minutes remaining in the game, Drew added teh final goal with a header off a corner kick.
Matt Ellingworth played goal for the second half and finished with eight saves.
