Swimmers Sweep Messiah

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna's men's and women's swim teams defeated non-conference opponent Messiah in a dual meet on Friday evening at the James W. Garrett Sports Complex.

The Crusaders defeated the Falcons by a combined score of 253-157. The men (3-1, 2-1) beat Messiah 116-89 and the women (3-1, 2-1) won 137-68.

In the women's 400 yard medley relay, the Crusaders won with a time of 4:22.96 behind Lexi Cole (Danville, Pa. / Danville), Dana Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J. / Mount St. Mary Academy), Samantha Meringolo (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) and Kate Mays (Holland, Pa. / Nazareth Academy).

Devin Lessard (Chestertown, Md. / Queen Anne's County) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:57.17. She also placed first in the 400 yard IM, finishing in 4:48.63.

Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills, Ohio / Orange) took first place in the 200 yard freestyle with a PR of 2:04.73. Alyssa Hess (Easton, Pa. Wilson Area) also set a P.R. in 2:14.92.

Loren Schott (Drums, Pa. / Hazleton Area) set a PR with a finish of 12:08.13 in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Meanwhile, Pontecorvo won the 500 yard freestyle with a mark of 5:31.67. Cole set a P.R. in the 50 yard free with a time of 26.45.

In the 100 yard breaststroke, Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) won with a time of 1:13.58. She went on to set a PR in the 50 yard free with a time of 26.44.

Nicole Caviris (Rollingsford, N.H.) performed in one meter diving, scoring 111.60 in the finals.

In the men's 400 yard medley relay, SU won with a mark of 3:49.96 behind Tyler Patrick (Mount Laurel, N.J. / Lenape), Cameron Boster (Burke, Va. / Robinson Secondary School), Chadd Lee (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area) and Nick Boyle (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield).

Tyler Long (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) took first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.71. He also won the 100 yard freestyle in 51.49.

In the 200 yard freestyle, Josh Heller (Rockville, Md. / Colonel Zadok Magruder) won with a personal-best of 1:51.94. He took the 500 yard freestyle as well, in 5:13.91, for another PR.

Lee was victorious in the 400 yard IM, posting a time of 4:31.77. He also won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:03.89.

Ian Woodcock (Milton, Pa. / Milton) won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.83, a PR. He also set a personal best in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a mark of 10:56.05.

Mike Yoder (Northumberland, Pa. / Shikellamy) performed in one meter diving, scoring a 132.90 in the finals.

Both swim teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Scranton to take on Marywood at 2 p.m. in a Landmark Conference meet.
