Swimming Defeats Drew & Juniata in Saturday Meet
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's men's team defeated Drew and the women's squad won over Drew and Juniata in a conference meet on Saturday at James W. Garrett Sports Complex.
The men beat Drew 158-86. The women defeated Juniata (76-35) and Drew (76-10).
In the women's 200 yard medley relay, the SU team of Michelle Delgado (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area), Maggie Hess (Wolfeboro, N.H. / Brewston Academy), Avanti Banks (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) and Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills, Ohio / Orange) placed first with a mark of 2:00.57.
SU took first and second in the 1000 free with Dana Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J. / Mount St. Mary Academy) winning with a time of 11:10.97, a p.r. She also placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.93, and second in the 200 yard IM in 2:23.80.
Lexi Cole (Danville, Pa. / Danville Area) took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a mark of 2:00.87 and Seaman was second in 2:04.89.
Delgado was victorious in the 100 yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:03.08. She also won the 200 yard backstroke with a mark of 2:17.10.
Devin Lessard (Chestertown, Md. / Queen Anne's County) won the 200 yard butterfly with a mark of 2:12.94. She placed first in the 500 yard freestyle, recording a time of 5:27.73.
Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) took home the 50 yard freestyle posting a mark of 26.28, a personal best.
Seaman also won the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 59.24.
In the 100 butterfly, Banks posted an exhibition time of 1:03.94, the best mark of the event, while Lessard's exhibition time of 2:18.41 in the 200 IM was the best mark of the afternoon.
In the men's 200 yard medley relay, the Crusaders won with a time of 1:40.86 behind Taylor Cole (Danville, Pa. / Danville Area), Chadd Lee (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area), Nicholas Boyle (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) and Josh Heller (Rockville, Md. / Colonel Zadok Magruder). SU also placed second in the event.
Tyler Long (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) won the 1000 yard freestyle, recording a time of 10:29.36. He was followed by Larry Abel (10:51.49) and Matthew Weller (11:16.49) in second and third.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Michael Inglesby (Hawley, Pa. / Wallenpaupack Area) placed first with a mark of 1:56.88.
Heller came away with the 100 yard backstroke, posting a time of 55.36. The Crusaders also captured second and third in that event and Heller later won the 100 yard freestyle in 47.73.
Lee won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.12, a personal best.
Ian Woodcock (Milton, Pa. / Milton) placed first in the 200 yard butterfly, registering a time of 2:07.46.
Boyle also took home the 50 yard freestyle in 23.29 and was followed by Shawn Entenman (23.61) and Eric Kilinski (24.11).
Cole won the 200 yard backstroke, recording a time of 2:07.96.
Both teams hit the water next week at former MAC opponent Albright on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.
