SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna men's swimmer Eric Lawrence and women's track athlete Ashley West have been named the SAAC/Pepsi Super Crusaders for the week ending Jan. 31.
Lawrence placed first in all four events in which he competed in Susquehanna's 150-112 defeat of Scranton. In the 100 yard backstroke he finished just under three seconds faster than the second -place finisher with a time of 54.56, while in the 200 yard backstroke he finished seven seconds faster (2:02.04) than the runner-up. In the 200 yard IM his winning time of 2:00.70 was 11 seconds faster than the second place finisher and he was also a member of the winning 200 yard medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:28.62.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Feb. 12 when the team competes at day one of the Landmark Conference Championships.
West set a Susquehanna and Landmark Conference record with her mile time of 4:58.89 this past Saturday. It was good for first overall at the Bison Open, hosted by Bucknell University.
West became the first SU and Landmark Conference female track athlete to post a sub five-minute mile in competition. She also currently has the second-fastest mile time among Division III female runners this season.
The Susquehanna track & field teams return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when SU hosts its annual Crusader Challenge.
