GERMANTOWN, Md. – With a second-place finish in the final event of the Landmark Conference Championship – the 400 yard free relay – the Susquehanna men's swimming & diving team held on for a runner-up finish at the 2016 championship meet.
The Crusaders finished with 639 points, 23 points ahead of the third-place Catholic team. USMMA won its ninth-consecutive title with an 891-point performance.
In the 1650 yard freestyle, Ryan Nathan earned 15 points for his fourth-place and personal record (PR) time of 17:07.15. This time places him in fourth in program history. Steven McFarland and Matthew Giroux also earned points with their 10th (17:21.89) and 11th (17:27.12) place finishes – both times PR's and good for seventh and eighth-place in the record books.
Eric Lawrence took fourth in the 200 yard backstroke with his PR time of 1:55.43 while Matthew Lustburg finished 12th with his time of 2:05.66, also a PR.
James Orzolek won the 100 yard freestyle in 46.68 seconds for a PR that places him second in program history. Duncan Frazier and David Miller placed sixth (47.84, a PR) and seventh (47.89, a PR) respectively for sixth and seventh in the SU record book.
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Danny Csakai set a personal record with his second-place time of 2:06.10 while Dillon Warr placed seventh (2:15.52). Nicholas Macdonald-Martell and Giroux finished 14th and 16th with their respective times of 2:24.66 – a PR – and 2:31.07.
Jourdan Steward earned 15 points with his fourth-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly (1:57.71) while Ryan Rizzuto, Henry Chang and Matthew Lustburg finished ninth (1:59.72), 10th (2:04.10) and 14th (2:06.74, a PR).
In the last event of the championships, the 400 yard freestyle relay team of David Miller, Csakai, Duncan Frazier and Orzolek set a school record with their second-place time of 3:09.17.
