Men’s Swimming Opens Season with Schweikert Relays

QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna men's swimming team won six of eight relays in the unscored Schweikert Relays against Elizabethtown College, Lebanon Valley College and Lycoming College.

THIRD-ANNUAL: The third-annual Schweikert Relays, held in honor of the late SU swimming coach George Edward "Ged" Schweikert III, featured non-traditional relays and served as a fundraiser for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF). Schweikert passed away in 2008 after an eight-year battle with the cancer.

WINNING WAYS: The River Hawks started the relays on a high note as the team of Owen Madden, Eric Lawrence, Jourdan Stewart and James Orzolek won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.48.

Madden won his second event of the day on the 3x100 yard backstroke relay team with his partners Dave Miller and David Grove (2:49.36).

Stewart, Bill Crumrine and Lawrence won the 3x100 yard butterfly relay with a time of 2:47.50, 12 seconds ahead of the second-place Elizabethtown team.

With a time of 4:28.22 the team of Orzolek, Grove, Miller and Ryan Nathan won the 500-yard freestyle relay. Their time was 16 seconds ahead of the second-place Elizabethtown team.

Miller, Crumrine and Nathan won the 3x500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.83 while Grove, Miller, Stewart and Orzolek won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:24.49).

LAST RELAY: The last relay of the night was the mixed 200-yard medley relay with teams made up of both men and women with no more than two men on a team. Lawrence, Madden, Maggie Palaski and Katie Willis came in second with a time of 1:52.76 while Devon Niness, Stewart, Colleen Walsh and Orzolek finished in third (1:53.23).
