Senior Bill Crumrine won both freestyle distance events for the Susquehanna University Men's Swimming and Diving team Sunday but the River Hawks dropped a 174-88 decision to Franklin & Marshall at McGuinnis Pool in Lancaster.
Crumrine won the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:17.32 and then took first in the 500-yard free later in the meet holding on for a tight finish with a time of 4:58.53. The second-place finisher from Franklin & Marshall closed the gap in the final 25 yards and finished .33 seconds behind Crumrine.
The other top finisher for the River Hawks was fellow senior David Miller who won the 200 free with a time of 1:46.75.
Susquehanna posted seven second place finishes on the day. The 200 medley relay was second and featured David Grove, Shane Sullivan, Eric Lawrence and James Orzolek as the team swam a 1:38.8. Grove also took second in the 100 back and swam the first leg of the second-place 400 free relay. Grove teamed with Crumrine, Miller and Orzolek in one of the closest finishes of the night. The River Hawks were out-touched at the wall by just .04 seconds to finish second in the final event of the meet.
Lawrence was second in the 200- butterfly with a time of 2:03.97 while Orzolek took second in both the 100 and 50 free events. His times were 48.72 and 22.33 respectively. Sullivan captured second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:16.88.
Susquehanna will compete at Bloomsburg Friday before hosting Goucher Saturday for the first home meet of the second semester.
