Men’s Swimming and Diving Edges Drew for Sweep

The Susquehanna University Men's Swimming and Diving team needed a 1-2 finish in the final race of the day to earn victories over both Marywood University and Drew University in a tri-meet Saturday afternoon at Marywood.

Head Coach Jerry Foley juggled his relays entering the final 400-Yard Freestyle Relay and the move resulted in a key first-second finish for the River Hawks as the second place relay won by just .02 seconds.

Owen Kelly, Ryan Rizzuto, Anthony Principe and Brett Walker won the 400-Free Relay with a time of 3:22.39 and the group of David Brady, Brandon Heese, Henry Chang and James Orzolek used the fastest leg of the event with a 47.76 by Orzolek in the final leg of the race to edge Drew at the wall and win the overall team score for the day.

Susquehanna (2-0) beat Marywood 210-57 and edged Drew 144-141 for the sweep of the tri-meet.

Orzolek had a pair of first place finishes earlier in the day as he won both the 50- and 100-yard free events and was also second in the meet-opening 200 medley relay as he teamed with David Grove, Shane Sullivan and Walker for the second place finish.

Grove went on to win the 100-yard Backstroke while Walker swam to a second place finish in the 200 Free. Sullivan had a nice day with a win in the 200 Breast and seconds in both the 200 IM and 100 Breast for the River Hawks.

Kelly added a second place finish in the 500 Free to his day and Jordi Soto was second in the 1-meter diving competition.

The River Hawks compete in another tri-meet next Saturday at Gettysburg with Messiah.
