Sullivan and Madden Lead Men’s Swimmers

In the first meet of the second semester, Shane Sullivan posted a pair of wins and Owen Madden won the 500-yard freestyle for the Susquehanna University Men's Swimming and Diving team Sunday afternoon but it was not enough as the River Hawks fell to Franklin & Marshall by a final score of 157-105 in the non-conference meet and senior day for Susquehanna.

Sullivan posted wins in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and also helped Susquehanna (2-3) to a second place finish in the meet-opening 200 Medley Relay. In the relay, Sullivan teamed with David Grove, Ryan Rizzuto and James Orzolek for a second place time of 1:39.90. Sullivan later won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.30 and took top honors in the 200 with a winning time of 2:15.01.

In the 100 breaststroke, Sullivan came from behind and pulled ahead in the last 20 yards to win by .13 seconds.

Madden was a winner in the 500 freestyle winning by just 1.63 seconds. He also took first in an exhibition 400 yard IM at the end of the meet with a thrilling dash to the wall as he out-touched the Franklin & Marshall swimmer for the win.

Orzolek had a productive day as he finished second in his two individual events and also swam with two second place relays. He was runner-up in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races and was also part of the opening medley relay as well as the second-place finishing 200 freestyle relay at the end of the meet. In the freestyle relay, he teamed with Grove, David Brady and Brett Walker for a second place finish in 1:32.59.

Walker was not only involved in the freestyle relay but also took second in the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Grove added a second place finish in the 100 backstroke. Senior Henry Chang was third in the 200 butterfly and also finished third in the exhibition 400 IM.

The River Hawks are back in action Friday with the final home meet of the season at 5 p.m. against Bloomsburg.
