Men’s Tennis Grabs Win from USMMA
KING’S POINT, N.Y. – The Susquehanna men’s
tennis team grabbed its second-consecutive league victory as the
Crusaders took down USMMA 7-2 to improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in
Landmark Conference play.
The Mariners’ Jeff Gulitis opened singles play with a 6-2,
6-3 win over Michael Hickey (Yarmouth,
Maine/Yarmouth) before SU rallied to sweep the
final five singles matches. Mats Haaland
(Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick),
Jeremy Neville (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley
Senior), Matthew Quadrini (Escondido,
Calif./Brunswick – Maine), Bruce
Osborn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) and Grant Uber
(Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) all picked
up wins, with Osborn and Uber not dropping a set.
Haaland and Hickey dropped the
first doubles match by a 9-8 score before Neville
and Quadrini took down the Mariners doubles team
of Biondi Phua and Richard Hine by an 8-3 score. Uber and Osborn
teamed up to end the doubles action, and the match, with an 8-2 win
over Fickens and Tichler.
The SU men’s and women’s teams host conference
opponent Moravian on April 2 for a 1 p.m. match.
