Men’s Tennis Wins Easily Over LVC, 8-1

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Susquehanna University’s men’s tennis team nearly shut out host Lebanon Valley, 8-1, on Sept. 25.

Sophomore Michael Hickey (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) won in straight-sets from first-flight, 7-5, 6-4.

Second-flight singles was won sophomore Richard Fitzsimmons (Brielle, N.J./Loomis Chaffee) with a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Jeremy Neville (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley Senior HS)followed  Fitzsimmons’ lead from third-flight with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 point.

Sophomore Mats Haaland (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) won a hard fought, fourth-flight match, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, while senior Bruce Osburn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) nearly shut out his fifth-flight opponent, 6-1, 6-0.

Fitzsimmons and Haaland took the first doubles point, 8-5, while Neville and Hickey won the second-flight doubles match, 8-2.

Junior Grant Uber (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) and Osborn recorded the final doubles point for SU, 8-6.

Next match for Susquehanna: Tuesday, Sept. 28, at King’s (Pa.), 4 p.m.
