Men's and Women's Tennis Stay Undefeated with Wins at Kings (Pa.)
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Susquehanna University men’s
and women’s tennis teams remained undefeated in its fall
seasons, topping King’s (Pa.), 5-4, 8-1.
The men’s team won, 5-4, while the women defeated the
Monarchs, 8-1.
SU’s men are now 4-0 on the season, while the women are
5-0.
Second-flight singles was won by freshman Jeremy Neville
(Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley Senior HS) with a
straight-sets victory, 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Mats Haaland
(Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) followed suit from
third-flight with a 6-1, 6-0 point.
Senior Bruce Osborn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area)
recorded another straight-sets victory from fourth-flight, 6-2,
6-3, while junior Grant Uber (Biglerville,
Pa./Biglerville) for the final singles point.
Doubles play was more of the same, as the duo of
Haaland and Uber won
second-flight, 8-6.
Osborn and junior Jeff Mazurek (Bozrah,
Conn./Norwich Free Academy) won third-flight doubles,
8-5.
Haaland and Osborn each improved
their singles record to 4-0.
The women’s team didn’t allow their match to be as
close as the men’s as they swept singles play.
Senior Julia Lerner (Arlington,
Va./Washington-Lee) won from first-flight, 6-3, 6-2, while
sophomore Abby Hess (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville)
won her second-flight singles match, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Jessica Klinger (Hummelstown,
Pa./Hershey) defeated her opponent, 6-1, 6-1, in
third-flight. Sophomore Ellen Pulsinelle (Lyndhurst,
N.J./Immaculate Conception) was another straight-sets
winner from fourth-flight, 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Whitney Arcaro (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton
Area) registered a fifth-flight point, 6-1, 6-1, while
sophomore Cassie Zerbe (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area)
won a tough straight-sets match from sixth-flight, 6-4, 6-4.
Hess and Klinger notched the
first doubles point, 8-5.
Lerner and Arcaro shut out their
opponent in second-flight doubles, 8-0.
Next Match: Sunday, Oct. 3, vs. Marywood, 1 p.m.
