Men's Tennis Prevails in Tough 5-4 Match Against Marywood
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Susquehanna University men’s
tennis team ran its record to 5-0 this fall with a 5-4 victory over
the visitors from Marywood University on Oct. 3.
Both teams split singles play, but SU won two of the three doubles
matches.
The second-flight singles point was claimed by sophomore
Richard Fitzsimmons (Brielle, N.J./Loomis Chafee)
with a straight-sets victory, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Mats
Haaland (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) followed suit from
fourth-flight with a 6-2, 6-2 point.
Senior Bruce Osburn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area)
recorded another straight-sets victory from fifth-flight, 6-1, 6-1,
to pick up the final singles point.
Freshman Jeremy Neville (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley Senior
HS) and sophomore Michael Hickey (Yarmouth,
Maine/Yarmouth) won their second-flight doubles match against the
Marywood opponent, 8-4.
Osborn and junior Grant Uber
(Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) won easily in third-flight
doubles, 8-2
