Men’s Tennis Competes at King’s Invitational

QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna men's tennis team competed in the King's College Invitational Saturday afternoon.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: To complete the tournament in one day the singles flights were combined: one and two singles, three and four singles, five and six singles and seven and eight singles. There were three rounds in each single flight – round one, semi-final and final – and two rounds in each double flight (round one and final).

DOUBLES ACTION: Ben Ornstein and Ryan Seibert competed at the number one doubles position and defeated their opponents from Marywood 8-2 to advance to the final where they lost to King's 8-4.

Alexander Cocolas and Alexander Dove took on Marywood in the first round at number two doubles and won 8-1 to advance to face King's in the final and lost 9-8.

At number three doubles, Nick Meale and Ashton Collins defeated their first round opponents from Misericordia (8-1) and then won the final 8-1 against King's.

Austin Gow and Taylor Swim won 8-3 over King's at number four doubles.

SINGLES ACTION: Ornstein competed at number one singles and defeated his Marywood opponent 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the semi-final where he lost 7-6, 6-1 to King's. Dove lost in the first round to Misericordia 6-0, 6-4 at the number two singles position.

Cocolas competed in the number three singles spot and won the first round 6-0, 6-1 against Misericordia and lost in the semi-final to King's 6-1, 7-6. Seibert advanced to the final as he defeated opponents from King's (walkover) and Marywood (6-2, 6-0). In the final, Seibert lost to King's 6-4, 6-1.

Collins (number five) and Meale (number six) went head to head in the 5/6 singles final after dispatching their opponents in the first and semi-final rounds. Collins won 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-1 over Misericordia and King's while Meale won 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 over Marywood and Misericordia. Meale defeated Collins in the final 6-0, 6-3.

The number 7/8 tournament saw another River Hawks final as number seven Swim defeated his Marywood (6-4, 0-6, 1-0) and King's (6-4, 2-6, 1-0) opponents to face number eight Gow – first round bye, defeated King's 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 – who then won against Swim 6-4, 2-6, 1-0.
