TOWSON, Md. – After a week off from competition, the Susquehanna men’s and women’s cross country teams were back in action at the Goucher Classic on Saturday morning. The women captured first place while the men, running without out their top five performers, took home fifth.
The women took first with 42 total points. Senior Alycia Woodruff continued her solid season, placing second with a time of 24:45.20 on the 6k course. Joining her in the top five was Casey Hess (25:01.10).
Also among the top 15 were Lauren Smith, who placed 11th (25:41.00) and Carly Bass, who finished 13th (20:02.10).
On the men’s side, head coach Marty Owens rested his top five athletes in preparation for the Landmark championships in two weeks. The Crusaders still had an impressive showing, taking home fifth with 132 points and well ahead of sixth-place finisher St. Mary’s (Md.), which tallied 167 points.
Brandon Mash was the top runner with a 15th-place finish courtesy of his 28:51.70 time on the 8k course. Brendan Kane was SU’s next finisher as his time of 29:23.90 earned him the 24th spot.
The Landmark Conference championships are scheduled for Oct. 30 at Goucher College.
