Rookies Mash, Waleko Recognized by Peers

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The members of Susquehanna’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) have named cross country runner Brandon Mash (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and field hockey player Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) as the Super Crusader Rookies of the Month for October.

Mash’s honor comes following a successful season, particularly at the Landmark Conference championships less than a week ago. Mash helped the men capture the team title with his 11th-place finish after posting a time of 27:51.50 on the 8k course.

Mash was named the Landmark Rookie of the Year and also picked up Second Team honors from the conference.

Waleko, meanwhile, put together a solid season for her Crusaders squad. The defender started all 19 games and added seven goals and six assists for 20 points. Her performance earned her a spot on the Landmark Conference’s Second Team, one of only two freshmen to honor that honor.

Earlier this week, she was named the Landmark Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the game winner against league foe Drew and chipping in two goals and an assist in a 9-0 blanking of Elmira.
