LEWIBURG, Pa. – The 2012 Susquehanna cross country season got underway Friday night as the men’s and women’s squads traveled to Bucknell to race in the three-mile Bison Open.
The top three finishers for the women were all freshman with rookie Ashley West (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) claiming SU’s top performance of the afternoon, placing third overall with a time of 18:25.
The Crusaders’ next two finishers were also rookies as Rachel Bachman (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) ran to a 24th-place finish with a time of 19:45 and was followed just over 30 seconds later by Diane Lindenmuth (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) (20:28).
Senior Michelle Kraske (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) took 31st, just two seconds behind Lindenmuth at 20:30. Kraske’s classmate, Sarah Dickerson (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern), rounded out the top-five female finishers for Susquehanna with her mark of 20:51.
In the men’s race, sophomore Alex Price (Skytop, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) crossed the line first for the Crusaders, finishing in 15:46, good for ninth place while setting a 10-second personal best. Just five spots and eight seconds behind him was Austin Iovoli (Victor, N.Y./Victor) (15:54), who also set a PR. He was followed by John Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) in 16th-place with a time of 16:00.
Freshman Dan Isenberg (Danville, Pa./Warrior Run) crossed the finish in 16:16, earning him 20th overall, while Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) and Franky Mills (Exton, Pa./The School at Church Farm) went 23rd and 24th with respective times of 16:28 and 16:30.
Both teams have off next weekend before traveling to Juniata on Sept. 15.
