Cross Country Squads Look to Claim Championship Titles

Official Landmark Conference Preview

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The 2012 Landmark Conference Championships are less than five days away for the Susquehanna men’s and women’s cross country teams. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Crusaders will travel to Juniata’s home course in Altoona, Pa.

The men’s 8k race will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the 6k women’s race at noon.

The SU men are looking to regain the title after they lost the championship in 2011 for the first time in conference history; Susquehanna had won every year leading up to 2011 after capturing the conference’s inaugural championship in 2007.

Earlier this season, the Crusaders placed just one point behind defending champion Moravian at the Juniata Invitational but were missing Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area), the top finisher for the SU men in two subsequent races.

On the women’s side, Susquehanna is aiming for a higher finish than its fourth-place showing one year ago. Freshman Ashley West (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton), the top female rookie in the conference so far this season, has been the team’s top finisher in every race this season and she should give SU a solid chance at making a run for the title.

The Division III Mideast Regional meet will take place on Nov. 10 at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. Dickinson College is the host institution.
