ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s cross country team certainly seems to be rounding into winning form early in the season as the Crusaders won the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Alumni Challenge on Saturday morning.
SU took home first by a 29-point margin of victory over second-place Elizabethtown (54 points) on the Blue Jays’ 6k home course. The team placed seven runners in the top 15 of the 73-runner, five-team field.
Junior Alex Price (Skytop, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) took third overall with a time of 20:04.97, less than 10 seconds off the winning time of 19:56.28 from Elizabethtown’s Dan Gresh. Teammate Colin Eberhardt (Lak Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) was directly behind him in fourth (20:09.16).
Sophomore John Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) crossed the finish in 20:12.22, good for sixth overall, and was followed two places behind by senior Sal D’Angelo (Glenside, Pa./Springfield Twp.) (20:17.83). Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) took home ninth with his time of 20:23.41 and Dan Isenberg rounded out the top-10 with a time of 20:24.94.
Senior Brandon Mash (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was 15th (20:48.87) while freshmen Matt Pezza (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Mark Harrel (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) placed 29th and 30th, respectively, with times of 21:18.94 and 21:23.65.
The team is back in action next Saturday, Sept. 21, at Lock Haven.
