Men’s, Women’s Cross Country Prepping for Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – On Saturday, Nov. 2 the first Landmark Conference championship of the fall season will be decided as Catholic University hosts the 2013 Cross Country Championships.

The women’s 6k race is slated to start at 11 a.m. followed by the men’s 8k race at noon. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. The races are being held at the United States Soldiers and Airmen’s Home in Washington D.C.

The Susquehanna women were projected to finish fourth in the preseason conference poll and enter Saturday after a solid regular season. The 2012 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year Ashley West (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) is again expected to lead the team. West currently holds the second-fastest 6k time in the conference this season (22:18.30).

Moravian was the preseason favorite heading into the season while the host Cardinals won the championship one year ago. In fact, over the past six years of competition, five different women’s champions have been crowned with SU the only team to win the title twice (2008, 2010).

On the men’s side, the Crusaders entered the fall as the preseason favorite. They are in search of their fifth title and first since 2010 after having won the first four championship titles in conference history (2007-10).

SU returns nine of its top 10 runners from last fall, all of which finished in the top 26 at the 2012 Landmark Conference championship meet. That group also includes four All-Conference runners in Colin Eberhardt (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area), Brandon Mash (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and Alex Price (Skytop, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) with just one senior – Mash – in that grouping.

Admission to both races is free. Directions to the course can be found here and additional information can be found at the Landmark Conference site.
