Price, Sherkness Selected as SU Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, PA. – Men’s cross country and volleyball are represented in the Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Aug. 31 as senior runner Alex Price (Skytop, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) and sophomore Marykate Sherkness (Treskow, Pa. / Marian Catholic) have been honored.

Price placed second at Saturday’s Bison Open with a personal best time of 14:50 on the three-mile course, finishing ahead of competitors from Division I institutions Bucknell and St. Francis and fellow Landmark Conference member Juniata. His three-mile time was the fastest in SU history since 2002.

Sherkness helped lead the Susquehanna volleyball team to a title at the Haverford Invitational over the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. The Crusaders finished with a 3-1 record with wins over #22 UMass-Boston, Stevenson and Widener and a five-set loss to Haverford.

The outside hitter helped clinch the victory over UMass-Boston with two service aces in the fourth set. Sherkness also compiled 27 kills as a starter in all four matches, including a team-high 15 against Haverford. She finished the invitational with a .208 attack percentage, two service aces, five digs and two block assists.

Price and the men’s cross country team are off next weekend and next compete at Penn State at on Saturday, Sept. 13. The volleyball team will host its annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6, with matches against Misericordia, Dickinson, Saint Vincent, and Gettysburg.
