Crusader Men’s Cross Country Solid in Season-Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's cross country team looked more than solid in its 2014 season opener at the Bison Opener as the Crusaders embarked on their quest for a second-straight Landmark title.

The top five finishers for the Crusaders averaged a time of 15:20 on the three-mile course, a 17-second improvement from a year ago.

Senior Alex Price (Skytop, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) took home second overall among runners from Bucknell, St. Francis and Juniata with his personal best time of 14:50. His three-mile time was the fastest in SU history since 2002.

John Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) was the second SU runner to cross the finish with a time of 15:17 (also a personal best) with Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) coming in just seconds behind (15:21 – a PR).

Junior Colin Eberhardt (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) posted a career best time of 15:31 to place 18th overall in the 66- runner field and classmate Dan Isenberg (Danville, Pa./Warrior Run) recorded a time of 15:43 for 26th place and a PR. Scott Sullivan (Silver Spring, Md./Northwood) and Kyle Skelton (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) went 27th and 28th, respectively, with times of 15:46 and 15:49.

Peter Lynch (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and Justin Skavery (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) posted respective times of 16:06 and 16:07, both career-best times, and Austin Iovoli (Victor, N.Y./Victor) went 16:14. Meanwhile, Andrew Steely (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) (16:15), Eric Pressler (Southampton, Pa./Council Rock South) (16:16) and Matt Pezza (Delran, N.J./Delran) (16:19) swept the 44 through 46 spots.

Rounding out the competitors for Susquehanna were Torin McFarland (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Robert) (16:21), Evan Skelton (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) (16:37), Sage Weikel (Pipersville, Pa./Palisades) (16:53), Pat Brown (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) (17:13), Mark Harrel (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) (17:22), Chase Wallace (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone Area) (18:07) and Ethan Eastwood (Canton, Maine/Cnaton) (18:29).

The Crusaders are off from competition next weekend before traveling to Penn State on Sept. 13.
