SAAC Team of the Week Spotlight: Men’s Cross Country

Beginning this 2014-15 academic year, Susquehanna's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will highlight one or two varsity Crusader teams each week. The purpose is to give fans an in-depth look at a team's season so far, what is on the horizon for each team as well as some standout individual performances by members of each squad.

The Team of the Week Spotlight gets underway with men's cross country. The SU men's cross country squad is coming off a Landmark Championship performance in 2013, the team's fifth title in the seven-year history of the conference.

So How Do They Look So Far?
The Crusaders' defense of their title began on Aug. 30 at the Bison Open and continued on Sept. 13 at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. At Penn State, the team faced competition from primarily Division I teams as well as a few nationally-ranked Division III teams. Senior Alex Price did well enough on the 5.2-mile course to be named the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

What's Coming Up?
Susquehanna has three more major meets before heading to Goucher College on Nov. 1 for the Landmark Conference Championship. On Sept. 27, SU heads to Lock Haven and the week after that will travel to the prestigious Paul Short Invitational. The team's final tune-up comes on Oct. 18 at Gettysburg.

Faces in the Crowd
This year's captains are seniors Pat Brown and Austin Iovoli. Classmates Paul Crowe and Price provide a lot of experience with big things expected from juniors John Crowe, Colin Eberhardt and Dan Isenberg. In addition, head coach Marty Owens welcomed three talented freshmen, bringing his squad size to 20.

Where and When Can You See Them?
Unfortunately for spectators, the Crusaders do not host any intercollegiate meets. However, they do host their annual Ashley Shell Tomlinson Memorial Run on Oct. 25 at Sassafras Field and Goucher College, the site of the Nov. 1 Landmark Championship, is just a two-hour drive away.
