BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's and women's cross country teams competed at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational on Friday at the campus of Lehigh University.

Despite cool and wet conditions, several Crusaders set personal-bests. John Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) was again the top finisher for the Crusader men. The senior placed 21st out of 354 runners in the 8k Brown Race with a career-best time of 25:17.

Teammate Dan Isenberg (Danville, Pa./Warrior Run) crossed the finish in 26:57 and Kyle Skelton (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was 42 seconds behind him with a time of 27:39. Just one second later, Justin Skavery (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) crossed the finish line (27:40).

Mark Harrel (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) finished in 27:43 – a PR – and Peter Lynch (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) posted a time of 28:06. Senior Colin Eberhardt (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), competing in his first race of the season, had a time of 28:18.

The day actually began for SU with the men's open 8k race at 9:30 a.m. Kaleb Waiwada (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) was the top finisher for Susquehanna, posting a time of 30:28. Less than 20 seconds later, MacKenzie Greco (Marion Heights, Pa./Mt. Carmel) crossed the finish in 30:44. Eric Pressler (Southampton, Pa./Council Rock South) posted a time of 31:52 with Ian Gromen (Haddon Heights, Pa./Haddon Heights) just seconds behind with a time of 32:05.

In the women's Brown Race, Ashley West (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) led the way with a 6k time of 22:18 to place 41st overall out of the 386 runners. Her time was just four seconds shy of matching her personal best.

Rachel Bachman (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) was next across the finish with a time of 23:41 while freshman Abby Taylor (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) posted a time of 24:22. Emily Leboffe (Morris, N.Y./Morris Central) finished in 25:00 and was followed by Rachel Daley (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) (25:18 – a PR) and Seema Tailor (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) (25:46).

Freshman Kirsten Hatton (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) rounded out the group with her time of 26:30.

Both teams return to action on Oct. 17 at Gettysburg.
