Landmark Conference Announces Spring All-Academic Team
The Landmark Conference has announced the selection of 32 student-athletes to the 2011 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team. Representing Susquehanna was men’s tennis player Bruce Osborn ’11 track athlete Joe Zamadics ’12, softball player Kate Reese ’12 and track athlete Alycia Woodruff ’11.

Seventy-Four Student-Athletes Earn Academic Honor Roll Status
Seventy-four Susquehanna student-athletes have been named to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. A total of 279 student-athletes from the eight Landmark institutions were named to the honor roll for completing the spring season with a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher.

The Susquehanna softball team quickly shook off its tournament-opening loss on Friday by grabbing an early victory on Saturday against Scranton, but was then eliminated from the Landmark Conference Tournament with a 2-0 loss to Catholic.

The Susquehanna softball team wrapped-up its regular season with a road split at Misericordia on Monday afternoon. SU took game one 4-0 before dropping a 10-0 decision in a five-inning game two.

Crusaders Drop Both at Moravian; No. 2 Seed in Landmark Playoffs
The Susquehanna University softball team dropped both games at Moravian College, 2-0, 5-1, in the last regular season games of the season. The Crusaders will now wait until next week’s Landmark Conference tournament, where they will be the No. 2 seed.

It was all about the seniors on the Susquehanna softball team as SU earned a split with No. 23 Lebanon Valley on Senior Day at Sassafras Fields. The Crusaders fell 1-0 in the opening game but rebounded to grab game two by a 2-0 score.

The Susquehanna extended its win streak to seven games by winning its opening game at Scranton 6-1 but quickly saw that streak snapped with a 4-0 loss in the nightcap to earn a split with the Royals on Tuesday afternoon.

Susquehanna softball pitcher Cara Swerdlow picked up her fourth Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week award of the season on Monday. The senior lefty earned a pair of conference wins and in the process surpassed the 600 career strikeout mark.

The Susquehanna softball team opened a stretch of four games in two days with a doubleheader sweep of Landmark Conference opponent Drew. The games, rescheduled due to last week’s rainout, saw SU blank the Rangers 10-0 and 8-0.

Thirty-two Susquehanna student-athletes have received Scholar-Athlete Awards for recording the highest grade-point averages (GPA) on their respective teams during the 2010 fall semester. The award is part of the Student-Athlete Affairs program (SAA), sponsored by the NCAA.

Tim Pastore of the men’s lacrosse team and Cara Swerdlow of the softball team have been named Super Crusaders for the week ending April 10. It is Pastore’s first honor of the season while it marks the second for Swerdlow.

Softball Splits with E’Town as Game-Two Rally Falls Just Short
Trailing 5-2 heading into the final inning in the nightcap of Susquehanna’s softball doubleheader at Elizabethtown, SU was able to put two runs on the board but fell just short of completing the comeback in a 5-4 loss. However, the Crusaders grabbed a game-one victory by a 3-0 score to split with the Blue Jays.

Swerdlow Makes History as SU Sweeps Gettysburg
Senior Cara Swerdlow tossed a four-hit shutout and in the process became Susquehanna’s all-time winningest pitcher as she now has 45 victories over her four-year career. The Crusaders swept Gettysburg 1-0 and 7-2 to extend their winning streak to an impressive 10 games.

The Susquehanna University softball team improved to 16-4 on the season and increased its current winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep over Landmark Conference rival, The Catholic University of America, 6-4, 3-0.

Susquehanna’s softball doubleheader against Gettysburg, originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon, has been postponed due to rain. The games will now be played on Thursday, April 7 at 3 p.m.

For the first time during the 2010-11 year, three student-athletes were recognized as Super Crusaders. Baseball’s Keith Needham was named the Male Super Crusader for the week ending March 27, while softball player Shelly Landis and women’s field athlete Jess Ranck were tabbed as Co-Female Super Crusaders.

Six in a Row for SU Softball
The Susquehanna softball team not only extended its win streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of rival Lycoming on Tuesday afternoon, it also retained its hold on the Breast Cancer Awareness Cup. Tuesday, designated as Pink Day by the team, saw the Crusaders take game one by a 5-0 score followed by a 2-1 game-two victory to cap off the day.

Susquehanna players, coaches and fans know what to expect every time Cara Swerdlow starts a game for the softball squad, and she delivered yet again in Tuesday’s home-opening doubleheader against Dickinson. The senior tossed her second no-hitter of the spring and SU went on to sweep the Red Devils and improve to 10-4 on the season.

Susquehanna continued its early-season trend of solid pitching as its pitching staff helped give the Crusaders a split against York (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon. SU, which opened its season with eight games in Florida, captured a 4-1, eight-inning victory in game one before falling to the Spartans 2-1 in the nightcap.

Rather, Marcus Cheatham of the men’s lacrosse team and Lisa Finizio of the softball team were two of nearly 450 student-athletes from across the country that convened in Orlando for the annual NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.
