Softball Scorches Red Devils
CARLISLE, Pa. – Susquehanna's softball team swept its doubleheader at Dickinson on Tuesday evening, winning game one and game two by the scores of 8-6.
The Crusaders (9-5) used high scoring first innings in both contests and held off furious rallies by Dickinson (4-10) to come away with the sweep.
In the first inning of game one, Lauren Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and Courtney Miller (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) both stroked singles and Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J. / Indian Hills) executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position.
Brittany Devlin (Furlong, Pa. / Central Bucks East) and Alison Cullen (Branchburg, N.J. / Immaculata) both ripped RBI singles as SU went ahead 3-0. Two more runs were scored on Dickinson errors as the Crusaders ended the top of the first ahead 5-0.
The Red Devils chipped away at the deficit, however, trimming the SU lead to 5-4 going into the fifth inning.
But the Crusaders tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead 7-4. After a Bridget Rafter (Highlands, N.J. / Henry Hudson Regional) walk, Sam Lacoe (Clarks Summit, Pa. / Abington Heights) singled and pinch runner Cierra Omlor (Salem, N.J. / Salem) scored on an error by the left fielder. L. Gilbert drove in LaCoe on an RBI base knock.
Dickinson scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5. SU went up 8-5 after a Finizio RBI single.
