MADISON, N.J. -- After a trip to the 2012 Landmark Conference Championship game, Susquehanna’s softball team was honored with two major awards as senior center fielder Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J. / Indian Hills) was named as the Player of the Year and head coach Kathy Kroupa and her staff were selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year, released on Monday.
Finizio started 39 games this season and finished with team-highs in hits (55), runs (32), and stolen bases (14). Her 55 hits are sixth all-time in single season history. She also registered two doubles, five triples, one homer and 21 RBI while only striking out seven times in 125 at-bats.
An elementary and early childhood education major, Finizio etched her name at the top of SU’s career record books. She is the all-time leader in at-bats, total bases and hits and is second all-time in triples and surpassed the 200-hit milestone earlier this season.
Kroupa led the Crusaders to the number one seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time in program history. She guided SU to a 26-14 record this season, including her 250th career win against York (Pa.) and her 200th win at SU versus Scranton.
This is the third time Kroupa and her assistants have been named Coaching Staff of Year.
