SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Softball and baseball are represented as the Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders as freshman pitcher Ashley Cole (Carle Place, N.Y. / Carle Place) and sophomore pitcher Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) have been selected for the period ending March 31.
In her first Landmark Conference action at home against Catholic last Thursday, Cole threw a three-hit shutout over the Cardinals (W, 3-0), fanning five and issuing one walk.
This season, Cole has made 10 appearances with seven starts—all complete games—with three shutouts. She leads the team in wins (6-1), ERA (1.81), innings pitched (54) and strikeouts (56). Cole has issued only five walks, has zero wild pitches and opponents are batting just .173 against her.
Cole and the Crusaders (14-4) host Dickinson on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Hotaling tossed a two-hit shutout against Moravian as SU defeated the Greyhounds 2-0 in their Landmark Conference home opening series this past weekend. In the opening contest, Hotaling went all seven innings, striking out four and surrendering only one walk.
In 2013, Hotaling has started six games and has four complete games and two shutouts. He has a 2.45 ERA, which leads all pitchers with at least six innings pitched (IP). Hotaling has hurled 36.2 IP, giving up 10 earned runs with 29 punch outs and six walks with opponents hitting .255 against him.
