Softball Wins Two; Gore Hits Two Walk-Off Homeruns

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team opened its home season with two wins on two Jackie Gore walk-off homeruns against Drew on Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders (8-4, 2-0) were down 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh in the first game when Gore hit a three-run homer to win 4-3. In the second game of the day, Susquehanna was up 8-2 in the fifth inning when Gore hit another three-run homer to end the game in the Crusaders' favor 11-2.

In game one, Gore went 1-2 at the plate with three RBI's while Amanda Neveroski and Leigh Ann Greenwald were 2-3. Neveroski finished with a triple while Greenwald had a double and a homerun for a RBI.

Jamie Fesinstine (4-2) pitched a complete game and struck out four in seven innings of work.

Drew (6-6, 0-2) scored three runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. SU's Greenwald homered in the fifth to cut the lead to two (3-2) and neither team scored until the bottom of the seventh when Gore hit a walk-off three run homer to give the Crusaders the 4-3 win.

In the second game of the day, Gore and Kelly Miller who went 2-2 at the plate. Gore had a triple and a homer to pick up five RBI's while Miller tallied a single and a triple for four RBI's. Lauren Creamer went 2-3 with a double and a RBI.

Pitcher Alexa Gonzalez (2-1) earned the win allowing only two runs on five hits in five innings of work.

Miller got the ball rolling for the Crusaders in the bottom of the second inning when she hit a bases-loaded triple down the right field line to give SU the 3-0 lead.

A double by Creamer in the third inning scored both Brooke Kohler and Neveroski to put SU ahead 5-0. With two runners on, Gore tripled to right field to score Creamer and Greenwald to take a 7-0 lead as Miller followed with a single to score Gore to increase the lead to eight.

The Rangers scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to six (8-2) but it was not enough as with two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth Gore hit a three-run walk-off homerun to end the game (11-2) in five innings.

The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, March 24 when the team travels to Dickinson for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
