SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team blanked visiting Cedar Crest in both games on Wednesday afternoon, winning 12-0 and 6-0.
In game one, pitcher Jamie Fesinstine (7-2) earned the complete game shutout with two strikeouts in five innings of work. Heather Pearson and Kelly Miller went 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored while Miller picked up three RBI's and a triple. Genevieve Raley, Amanda Neveroski and Emilie Boman went 2-3 with Boman tallying three RBI's, two runs scored and a double.
The Crusaders (13-5) scored two runs in the first and never looked back. In the next two innings, SU scored four runs for the 6-0 lead going into the fourth inning. Susquehanna added another six runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach.
In the second game of the day, Boman led the offense going 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Pitcher Alexa Gonzalez earned the complete game shutout in seven innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Susquehanna scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Boman crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give SU the 1-0 lead.
The Crusaders plated three more runs in the fifth inning when Boman reached on an error that scored Brooke Kohler. Neveroski scored on a Lauren Creamer ground out and Miller singled to drive in Boman for the 4-0 lead.
Two runs in the sixth inning and a three-up, three-down top of the seventh gave SU the 6-0 win.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 2 when the team hosts Messiah for a doubleheader. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m.
