SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team split its Landmark doubleheader with Catholic and in the process suffered its first Landmark Conference loss of the season.
Pitcher Jamie Fesinstine (8-3) earned the complete game win in seven innings of work, allowing only two runs while striking out eight.
Catholic (17-7, 5-3) scored in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Susquehanna answered in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of its own to tie the game. Gore started the inning with a homer over the right center wall to cut the Cardinal's lead to one (2-1). Pearson followed with a triple that scored Neveroski to make it a tie ball game (2-2).
The Crusaders put the game out of reach for Catholic in the bottom of the sixth when Kelly Miller scored on a wild pitch and Kohler singled to score both Claire Hanratty and Jill Ahrens to seal SU's 5-2 victory.
In the second game of the day, the Crusaders lost 6-1 with Miller going 2-3 at the plate to lead the offense. Emilie Boman went 2-4 with the team's lone RBI. Pitcher Alexa Gonzalez (4-4) pitched a complete game, striking out two.
The Cardinals scored first in the first inning to take a slim 1-0 lead. The Crusaders tied the game when they scored their only run on Boman's single to right center that scored Pearson. Unfortunately, SU was not able to overcome Catholic's three-run sixth and two-run seventh.
Susquehanna remains at home to host Wilkes University on Wednesday, April 13 for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
