BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team dropped two Landmark Conference games to No. 19 Moravian College, falling 6-3 and 6-1 Saturday afternoon.
Amanda Neveroski, Heather Pearson and Lauren Creamer all went 2-4 at the plate in game one while Leigh Ann Greenwald and Pearson picked up the Crusaders' only two RBI's of the game. Pitcher Jamie Fesinstine (10-4) pitched a complete game with three strikeouts.
Moravian (25-3, 9-1) scored three runs in the first inning on a three-run homer from Kat Spilman for a 3-0 lead.
The Greyhounds increased their lead to four in the second inning but Susquehanna answered with three runs of its own in the third to cut the lead to one (4-3). Jill Ahrens scored when Greenwald singled down the right field line. Pearson followed with a single of her own to score Neveroski and Greenwald scored when Kelly Miller reached on a dropped fly ball.
Unfortunately, SU did not score for the remainder of the game and Moravian scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to win 6-3.
In the second game of the day, the Crusaders (16-10, 5-3) tallied only five hits – four doubles – to the Greyhounds' 13, all five of which came from different individuals.
Moravian scored runs in all but the second inning to win 6-1. Susquehanna made it a 4-1 game in the fifth inning when Ahrens doubled to right center field to score Claire Hanratty but that was the only run SU plated.
With the game two win, the Greyhounds clinched the top seed in the Landmark Conference Championship and will host the postseason tournament on May 6-7.
The Crusaders remain on the road Sunday, April 17 when the team travels to Lycoming for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
