Softball Sweeps to Finish Florida Trip

Alexa Gonzalez and Jamie Fesinstine combined to allow just one run and Leigh Ann Greenwald contributed a pair of hits in each game as the Susquehanna University Softball team scored a pair of non-conference wins on the final day of the Spring Training trip to Florida. The River Hawks beat Endicott 3-0 and Fitchburg State 5-1.

Against Endicott, Susquehanna (8-4) scored twice in the third and one in the fourth for the only runs of the game. Fesinstine allowed just three hits with a walk and one strike out and faced just 25 batters.

Greenwald and Kasey Bost were each 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Jackie Gore had a run and a run batted in. Brooke Kohler and Emilie also drove in runs.

In the win over Fitchburg, Gonzalez allowed just one run on five hits with five strikeouts and also faced just 25 batters.

Greenwald had another two hits while Lauren Creamer, Jill Ahrens and Heather Pearson also contributed two hits each. Ahrens had a pair of runs batted in to lead the team.

The big inning for the River Hawks was the top of the third when they scored all five runs. Pearson and Greenwald opened the inning with singles. Kohler followed with a walk and the runners advanced with a throwing error charged to the catcher. Bohman followed with a rare ground out to right field to score Greenwald and Kelly Miller singled to drive home Kohler.

Creamer had a bunt single before Ahrens singled to score both Miller and Creamer to cap the five-run inning.

The River Hawks return North and will play at Misericordia Thursday and open the Landmark schedule at Scranton March 25.
