SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna senior women’s basketball player Rachael Hughes (Gordon, Pa./North Schuylkill) and junior track athlete Ian Quinlan (Eagle View, Pa./Methacton/Lehigh) were named the final Super Crusaders in the month of January.
Hughes, a guard, scored a combined 32 points in road games against Landmark Conference opponents Catholic and Goucher. In a loss to Catholic, Hughes scored 18 points on a 7-of-15 shooting performance and tied for the team lead in rebounds with six.
The following night, she finished with 14 points in the Crusaders’ 51-43 win at Goucher to go along with two assists, one steal and one rebound in what was among SU’s best defensive performances of the season.
The team captain has started all 20 games this season, one of only two players on the team to do so, and is averaging 9.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. She is shooting better than 44 percent from the field and has 49 assists, good for second on the team.
Quinlan, meanwhile, was named the Landmark Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week after an impressive performance at last weekend’s Bison Open and Multi. Quinlan set a personal-best by more than 20 seconds in the 5,000 meter with his time of 15:26.40. That performance, the fifth-best of the day, is the third-fastest time in Landmark Conference indoor history.
