SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women’s basketball
was unfortunately no match for visiting Moravian as the
22nd-ranked Greyhounds came away with an easy 86-42 win
on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders (6-11, 1-5) saw just one player reach double figures
as Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa./Wallenpaupack)
scored 10 points to go along with eight rebounds. Shannon
Grunwald (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) netted nine
points and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds.
Unfortunately, the SU bench was out-scored 43-12 and the Greyhounds
(16-2, 7-0) scored 29 points off 24 Crusader turnovers.
After tying the game at five on a Grunwald layup, the Greyhounds
proceeded to go on a 16-0 run to go up 21-5 with 11:36 still to
play.
The Crusaders scored only nine more points over the rest of the
half while Moravian managed 27 to take a 48-14 lead into halftime.
No SU player had more than five points as Grunwald finished with
five on 2-of-4 shooting with one three-pointer.
The second half saw Moravian go on an 18 -2 run to open the period
that upped the team’s lead to 50 points (66-16). Susquehanna
cut 11 points off that lead to make it 77-38 with less than four
minutes to go.
By the time the game ended Moravian had regained a 40-plus point
lead and won 86-42. The Crusaders were able to double their scoring
output from the first half, however.
