Crusader Women Suffer Road Loss to Rangers

MADISON, N.J. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team never a held a lead in its road game against Landmark Conference opponent Drew and fell to the Rangers 67-48.

The Crusaders (6-12, 1-6) lost both regular season matches to the Rangers (7-11, 3-4) for the first time in Landmark Conference competition.

Eleni Dimou (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) was the only SU player to reach double figures as she scored 13 points, including a 7-of-8 performance from the free throw line. Drew had 12 more rebounds than did Susquehanna (43-31) and scored 34 points in the paint while limiting the Crusaders to 22.

A Candence Cannady (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet) jumper three minutes into the game made it 4-4 but that marked the last time in the game that Susquehanna did not trail Drew. Just over nine minutes later the Rangers took their first 10-plus point lead of the game at 21-10 and had nearly doubled that lead (36-16) with 1:15 left to play.

As time expired in the half, Susquehanna found itself in an 18-point hole (40-22) despite a three-point play from Dimou to end the half.

The Crusaders allowed Drew to open the half on a 9-1 run to lead 49-25 after five minutes of play. Over the remaining 15 minutes SU was unable to pull any closer than 15 points when a Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa./Wallenpaupack) layup at the 6:26 mark made it 55-40.

The Rangers scored 12 of the next 20 points to come away with the 67-48 victory.

SU returns to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game at Goucher.
