SCRANTON, Pa. – Three players finished in double figures for Susquehanna's women's basketball team but the Crusaders fell to the University of Scranton, 74-51, Saturday afternoon at the Long Center in the Landmark Conference opener for both squads.
Sophomore Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa. / Loyalsock Twp.) scored a team-high 12 points behind 5-of-7 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. Senior Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa. / Wallenpaupack Area) chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Senior Shannon Grunwald (Neshanic Station, N.J. / Somerville) scored 10 points off the bench behind 2-of-3 shooting from downtown.
SU (1-5, 0-1) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a Mariah Monahan (Towanda, Pa. / Towanda Area) jumper but unfortunately that was the only time the Crusaders were ahead in the contest.
The Lady Royals (6-0, 1-0) used a 23-5 run in the first half and ended the opening period leading 34-23. Palazzi had five of her rebounds in the first half of action.
