Komara, Weidlich Named Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Both basketball teams are represented as this week’s Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders as freshmen Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa. / Lourdes Regional) and Steven Weidlich (Watchung, N.J. / Watchung Hills) have been selected for the period ending Jan. 19.

Komara helped lead the Crusaders to a pair of Landmark Conference wins over Goucher and Merchant Marine by averaging 22.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg in the victories.

Against Goucher (W, 62-50), Komara scored 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting (64.3 percent), grabbed five boards and distributed two assists in 37 minutes of action. Versus Merchant Marine (W, 73-57), Komara pumped in 23 points and recorded nine rebounds in 34 minutes.

This season, Komara leads the Crusaders in scoring (12.6 ppg) and is also averaging 6.7 rpg. The freshman has registered 29 assists and 39 steals while shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 48.6 percent from downtown.

Komara and the women’s team (8-6, 2-2 Landmark) travel to Catholic on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Weidlich also guided SU to two league wins against Goucher and Merchant Marine, averaging 21.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 3.0 apg in the contests.

Weidlich scored 22 points against Goucher (W, 88-77) behind 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range and pulled down five boards and distributed four assists in 34 minutes. Versus Merchant Marine (W, 79-64), Weidlich notched 20 points, shooting 4-of-6 from long distance, while recording four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

For the year, Weidlich is second on the team in scoring (16.1 ppg) while averaging 5.1 rpg with 34 assists and 20 steals as SU has won seven of its last nine games.

Weidlich and the Crusaders (10-5, 2-2 Landmark) host league-leading Catholic on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
