Jim Reed completed his 10th season as head coach of the Susquehanna women’s basketball team in 2014-15., a year in which he and his assistants were named Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Reed was named the head coach in August 2005 after serving as the head women’s basketball coach at Wilkes University since July 2001. In 2008-09, the Crusaders earned Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the first time in program history.
Reed is no stranger to Susquehanna, having served as an assistant women’s basketball coach under Mark Hribar for three seasons (1989-1992) and as a men’s basketball assistant under Frank Marcinek for two seasons (1992-1994). During his previous stint at Susquehanna, Reed also served as an assistant baseball coach from 1991-1994 and as the head women’s tennis coach from 1993–94.
After leaving Susquehanna, Reed served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at NCAA Division II University of Indianapolis during the 1994–95 season and as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Indian Valley High School (Pa.) from 1995-1998.
In 1998, Reed returned to his alma mater, Division I Bucknell, as an assistant women’s basketball coach and helped the Bison to a then school-record 20 victories during the 2000–01 season before moving on to Wilkes.
Reed graduated from Bucknell in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He worked as a structural engineer for four years before turning to coaching. He played one season of football as a defensive back and lettered twice in track & field. The Reedsville, Pa. native is a 1980 graduate of the former Kishacoquillas (Pa.) High School and a 1981 graduate of Mercersburg Academy (Pa.).
