Trio of All-League Players for SU
MADISON, N.J. – Three Susquehanna women’s lacrosse
players earned All-Landmark Conference honors as junior defender
Marra Landino (Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union
Academy), freshman midfielder Michelle McGinniss
(Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and senior midfielder
Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS) were
named to the Second Team.
Landino was one of the most consistent defensive players for the
Crusaders this spring. She started 12 of the 13 games in which she
played and led SU in ground balls (45) and caused turnovers (30)
while also winning 15 draw controls. She also led the league in
ground balls per game (3.46) and her 30 caused turnovers were a
career-high, surpassing her previous mark of 21 as a sophomore.
Landino got in on the offensive action, as well, chipping in three
goals and one assist for four points.
Fans would have been hard-pressed to identify McGinniss as a
freshman, as she made an immediate impact on both ends of the
field. McGinniss started 14 games and appeared in all 15 and netted
a team-leading 41 goals. With her eight assists, she finished with
49 points, second-best on the squad, as were her 49 shots.
Away from the net, she scooped up 35 ground balls, won 25 draw
controls and caused 24 turnovers, with all of those totals
second-best on the Crusaders.
Finally, team captain Wright capped off a highly successful career
with her third all-league accolade. Wright finished her senior
campaign with 44 points on 24 goals and a career-high 20 assists.
She also racked-up a career-high 34 ground balls, won 64 draw
controls – one shy of her career mark – and caused a
career-high 17 turnovers. She led all league players by averaging
4.27 draw controls per game.
For her career, Wright, a team captain, leaves SU with 106 goals
and 53 assists for 159 points in 56 games. Her 159 points are third
all-time, while her goals are sixth and her assists are good for
fourth in program history.
