CHESTER, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team defeated Widener 14-9 on Saturday afternoon.
Brooke Burnett and Becky McHugh scored the other two goals for Susquehanna while Burnett and Shannon Kinney picked up six ground balls apiece. Kinney had four caused turnovers and Brooke Klair tallied four draw controls.
Ehler scored first at the 28-minute mark and less than two minutes later Rabiecki scored to give the Crusaders (2-3) a 2-0 lead. The Pride (3-2) scored the next four goals to take a two-goal lead (4-2) at the 20:59 mark.
Rabiecki scored back to back goals at the 19:32 and 18:32 marks to knot the game at four while McElaney scored four minutes later to give SU the 5-4 lead. With 9:11 remaining in the half, Widener tied the game at five. However, Ehler scored at the 7:36 mark and Burnett followed with a goal of her own with 6:20 on the clock to give the Crusaders the 7-5 lead, a lead SU would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
Rabiecki scored the last goal of the half with 35 seconds on the clock to go into halftime up 8-6.
Susquehanna scored first in the second half off of a McElaney goal to give SU a three-goal cushion (9-6). Widener cut the lead to two at the 19:30 mark (9-7) but Ehler scored three minutes later to increase the lead to three (10-7).
Both teams traded goals until SU's Ehler scored at the 5:43 mark to go up 12-9.
McElaney scored the last two goals of the game at the 4:34 and 1:16 marks to clinch the Crusaders' 14-9 win.
Susquehanna travels to Landmark Conference opponent Drew on Friday, March 25 for the team's first Landmark Conference game. The game starts at 3:00 p.m.
