SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team picked up a Landmark Conference win when SU defeated Scranton 18-8 at home Friday evening.
Annie McElaney and Kelcie Ehler led all scorers with six goals apiece while Caroline Rabiecki and Becky McHugh contributed two goals each. McHugh picked up three assists and Ehler tallied two. McElaney totaled six draw controls to go along with six ground balls.
Goalie Alyssa Rothman (4-3) earned the win in 60 minutes of work with nine saves and four ground balls.
Scranton (6-5, 1-1) scored the first goal of the game at the 24:42 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Susquehanna (5-5, 2-0) answered with back-to-back goals from Rabiecki and McElaney to go up 2-1 with 21:01 on the clock. Both teams traded goals until the Crusaders scored three in-a-row to increase their lead to three (6-3) with 9:01 remaining in the half.
The Royals scored the last two goals of the game, with the last coming with three seconds on the clock, to cut the lead to one (6-5) going into halftime.
In the second half Susquehanna's defense held Scranton to only three goals while the offense doubled its efforts and scored 12 goals to ultimately win 18-8. SU's final goal of the game came at the 4:46 mark when McHugh scored off an assist from Ashley Rose Lynn. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game.
The Crusaders remain at home to host Dickinson on Wednesday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m.
