ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 in Landmark Conference action with Wednesday's 18-10 win at Elizabethtown.
SU (6-7, 3-1) led 7-5 at halftime before putting together a six-goal second half to put the game away. Annie McElaney led all players with six goals on 10 shots with Kelcie Ehler adding five goals and one assist. Becky McHugh chipped in three goals and three assists for the Crusaders.
As a team, SU out-shot the Blue Jays 42-26 and forced 20 Elizabethtown turnovers and goalie Alyssa Rothman played all 60 minutes and racked up 10 saves to earn the win.
Elizabethtown (6-8, 2-3) took a 2-0 lead less than 90 seconds into the game before back-to-back goals by McElaney and McHugh tied the game at two. The Blue Jays scored three of the next four goals to lead 5-3 with 20 minutes still to play in the half.
The SU defense shut out Elizabethtown for the remainder of the half while the offense scored the final four goals of the period to take a 7-5 halftime lead.
The Crusaders opened the second half with a 6-0 run to grab a 13-5 lead. Elizabethtown pulled within six (13-7) with 18 minutes remaining before back-to-back goals by Caroline Rabiecki and McHugh made it an eight-goal game (15-7) at the 14:09 mark.
Susquehanna later went on to score three unanswered goals to lead by nine, 18-9, with 5:51 remaining and Elizabethtown managed just one more goal which came at the 1:13 mark.
SU remains on the road to face Goucher on April 23 at 12 p.m.
