Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down Marywood

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team picked up an 18-5 win over visiting Marywood University in SU's final non-conference game of the regular season.

The Crusaders (7-8) went into halftime leading 13-4 and gave up just one second-half goal to the Pacers (7-9) to grab the victory.

Five different players had at least two goals in the game, led by Annie McElaney's four goals and three assists. SU took 41 shots to Marywood's 16 and forced 26 Pacers turnovers, 17 of which came in the first half. Susquehanna also went 4-of-9 on free-position shots.

Zoe Lycett picked up her 100th career ground ball in the game to go along with three caused turnovers. Shannon Kinney had six ground balls, one goal and one caused turnover.

Starting goalie Alyssa Rothman had two saves in her 30 minutes of work while Carolyn Figliola had four saves in the second half.

Marywood scored 17 seconds into the game but that was the team's only lead of the afternoon. Susquehanna responded by scoring six-straight goals to pull ahead 6-1 with 21:19 still to play in the opening half.

The Pacers were within five of the lead, 8-3, with 12:34 remaining. The Crusaders then scored five of the final six goals of the half with the final two come from McElaney to give SU the 13-4 halftime lead.

Susquehanna's defense kept Marywood off the scoreboard until the eight-minute mark of the second half by which time the Crusaders had built a 17-5 lead with four different players accounting for SU's goals over that span.

Una Heinzerling's free position goal with 3:37 to play marked the final goal of the game.

Susquehanna remains at home to host USMMA on April 30 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day in the team's final game of the regular season.
