Balanced Scoring Attack Leads Susquehanna Past Penn College, 76-57, at Pepsi/Weis Tournament

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's sophomore forward Jennifer Butts (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) tied a game-high 12 points and pulled down five rebounds to help Susquehanna defeat the visiting Pennsylvania College of Technology, 76-57, in a non-conference women's basketball game at the 2009 Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Nov. 21.

Butts tied a team-high by making five field goals and grabbing three defensive rebounds.

Susquehanna (1-1 overall) never trailed Penn College (1-4 overall) and led by as many as 21 points three times in the second half. The Crusaders also outrebounded the Wildcats, 47-37, and forced 30 turnovers.

Junior guard Rachael Hughes (Gordon, Pa./North Schuylkill) chipped in 11 points and also tied a game-high with four assists. Teammate and sophomore guard/forward Jessica Zigarelli (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) also recorded four assists and posted six points and five boards.

SU's junior guard Nikki Schneck (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) led all players with five steals, and freshman forward Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa./Wallenpaupack) paced the Crusaders with eight rebounds.

Penn College was led by sophomore guard/forward Kelsey Mack (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and freshman guard/forward Kiersten Steer (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport), both of whom tallied 12 points. Freshman center Jessica Hohman (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) collected a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Crusaders had 13 different players score in the victory.

Shenandoah University (1-0 overall) defeated Misericordia University (0-2 overall), 57-50, in the other semifinal game. Misericordia and Penn College will play tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the consolation game, while Susquehanna and Shenandoah will play at 3 p.m. for the championship of the 2009 Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament.
