April 25: Susquehanna 24, Moravian 16

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Sophomore midfielder Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS) exploded for a game-high eight goals and added two assists and five draw controls to help visiting Susquehanna University top Moravian College, 24-16, in a Landmark Conference game at Haupert Union Quadrangle on April 25.

Both Susquehanna (7-6, 1-4 Landmark) and Moravian (6-10, 0-5 Landmark) have finished their 2009 seasons. Wright led the Crusaders this year with 37 goals and 17 assists for 54 points. She also collected a team-high 36 draw controls.

Freshman midfielder Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell), sophomore midfielder Sara Franckowiak (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and senior midfielder Cindy Wilson (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) each scored four goals against the Greyhounds. Dyer added two assists, while Franckowiak had one.

Teammate and senior midfielder Katelyn Deese (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scored three goals and assisted on two others. Deese also collected five draw controls and caused a game-high three turnovers. She led the team this season with 31 caused turnovers and 56 ground balls.

The Crusaders' sophomore midfielder D.J. Jacobs (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) notched one goal, one assist and five ground balls in this game. Fellow sophomore midfielder Kirsten Detwiler (Montchanin, Del./Wilmington Friends) contributed a game-high three assists. Freshman midfielder Marra Landino (Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union Academy) scooped up five ground balls.

Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) earned the win in goal by making 15 saves, including a game-high 10 in the second half. Tompeck matched her team this season with a record of 7-6.

Though Susquehanna and Moravian combined for 40 goals in this one, defense still played a big part in determining the outcome.

SU scored many goals by capitalizing on Moravian miscues. The Greyhounds went just 7 for 14 in clear attempts, while Susquehanna went 16 for 21. Moravian also committed 21 turnovers to just 13 for the Crusaders.

SU took control of this game by scoring eight of nine goals at one point late in the first half, including three straight by Wilson.

The Crusaders led at the half, 14-7.

For the game, they held a 48-37 advantage in shots.
