Susquehanna Women's Swimming Breaks Multiple School Records at F&M Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's junior
Christie Savard (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) was all or
part of seven school records and won the 200-yard backstroke in an
NCAA Division III championships "B" standard and meet-record time
of 2 minutes, 6.04 seconds to help the Susquehanna women's swimming
team finish eighth out of 13 teams at the Franklin & Marshall
Invitational, held at Kunkel Aquatic Center from Dec. 5-6.
Savard broke her previous Susquehanna record of
2:10.96, set last season in the 200 back. She also placed second in
the 100 back with a school-record-time of 1:00.02 and finished
third in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.65, good for another SU
record. Junior Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton,
Pa./Freedom) held the previous record in the 100
back, set last season with a time of
1:00.81. Savard topped her best mark of
2:16.91 in the 200 IM, set earlier this season.
Savard teamed with freshman Devin Lessard
(Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) and seniors
Hayley Keenan (Pikesville, Md./Liberty HS) and
Catherine Harris (Miller Place,
N.Y./Miller Place) to break two school relay records and
place in the top six in one event. The foursome placed sixth in the
400 freestyle relay in school-record-breaking time of 3:45.19 and
also set a new record in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:42.80.
Tammy Shutters, Heather Fazekas '99, Jenn Elkins '98 and
Karen Danskin '96 swam the previous school-record time of 3:50.01
in the 400 free in 1996. The team of Raquel Erwin '09, Julie
Yingling '08, Lindsey Moretti '08 and Kelly Chamberlain '06 held
the old record of 1:43.63 in the 200 free, set in 2006.
Lessard and Savard also teamed
with Keenan and senior Cristina
Los (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) to place sixth in
the 200 medley relay in another SU record of 1:54.38. The team
of junior Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton,
Pa./Freedom), Los,
Keenan and Harris held the old
record in the 200 medley of 1:54.73, set last season.
SU's Harris, Lessard,
Savard and Los recorded another
sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:11.08,
good for another Crusaders record. Jankiewicz,
Los, Savard and
Harris set the old 400-medley mark last season in
a time of 4:13.63.
Two other Susquehanna records were broken by
Lessard in the 100 and 200 butterfly races. She
placed third in the 200 fly in a time of 2:13.03 and fourth in the
100 fly with a time of 1:00.65. Lessard set both
records in each event earlier this season with times of 1:01.77 in
the 100 and 2:13.68 in the 200.
Keenan notched a fifth-place finish in the 200
backstroke with a time of 2:12.39.
Harris broke the 50 free record with a time of 25.46 seconds, breaking her own mark of 25.66 seconds, set last season. She also broke her own record of 56.26 seconds in the 100 free, set last season, with a 56.10-second performace in this meet.
Susquehanna finished the meet with 245.5 team points, while The College of New Jersey placed first with 653.5 team points.
